The Surgeon

Mr Mike Henley MBBS FRCS(Eng) FRCS(Urol) CCST(Urol) GMC 3490091

Originally I trained in London, at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School (now Imperial School of Medicine). I spent my early career working in clinical posts in London and Harefield, spending a year (like many surgeons) teaching anatomy at CXWMS medical school. Keen for experience I moved to the East Midlands where my research told me that operative and clinical exposure was much better than in London. Initially coming only for a year or two but one job seemed to lead to another! I then spent time in research in one of the highly competitive Royal College of Surgeons Fellowships. My urological training was in the Midlands, working with a number of leading UK urologists. I learnt vasectomy reversal both with local surgeons as well as the British Urological Association Microsurgical Vasectomy Reversal Training Course.

I now train both medical students as well as the next generation of surgeons. I am clinical supervisor to surgeons working on doctorate theses here at the University of Nottingham.

I am involved in developing patient safety, both on a day to day basis and with the development of new methods and technologies of ensuring safe surgery. I am also the elected Trent representative on the British Medical Associations Central Consultants and Specialists Committee.

I am in my 40's, married with two children. I enjoy walking and cycling in the fantastic Derbyshire countryside. All of which is also the material for my other passion - photography.
